Jolyn is a licensed and registered counsellor with the Board of Counsellors, Malaysia (“LKM”) since 2016. She is currently the Head of MPU in Methodist College Kuala Lumpur, focuses on teaching students about social issues and bringing up projects to meet the gaps among marginalized communities in Malaysia. Jolyn does research and spoke in multiple conferences regarding to education and counselling, such as reflective module and project management, workplace bullying and etc. She also published journal regarding psychological and counselling issues. She can create learning intervention modules for special needs kids.
Before this, Jolyn spent 4 years with UNHCR working with the refugee population. She is also an active volunteer at PT foundation which provides HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and support programmes and is trained in carrying out HIV screening and counselling HIV positive clients towards better daily functioning. She was also part of the government-initiated project by Ministry of Finance, Volunteer for International Professionals (“VIP”) working on a project with a HIV home in Batu Arang, which aims to help drug addicts and HIV host to re-integrate into society with capacity building programs & livelihood creation. Those experiences made her the expert in refugee/humanitarian relief, reproductive/sexual health counselling, monitoring and evaluation, project management, training development and volunteer management.
Above all, Jolyn is a down to earth person, a counselling psychologist by profession. Her area of interest include crisis and grief counselling to journey with clients during their times of needs and to help them through difficult times in life. Her therapy approaches are mainly grounded on Existential but she is able to carry out various counselling interventions and uses a wide variety of tools that is best suited to each client.
