Braving through the Storm

Updated: Nov 22, 2019

[Workshop on 30 June 2019]

From suicide to soaring rates of depression and mental disorders, the news is often filled with stories of people who didn’t cope well with stress or psychological distress. However, and perhaps to our delight, the majority of people in the world actually do cope well. Research has shown that resilience is ordinary, not extraordinary. Unfortunately, success stories rarely reach the media.

In 2011, the founder of positive psychology, Martin Seligman, described a model that acts as a foundation for happiness and well-being. In it, he identified 5 important building blocks of well-being and happiness:

Positive Emotion | Engagement | Relationships | Meaning | Achievement

In this practical workshop, our counsellor, John Pinto share with the participants to:

  • Gain a working knowledge of the factors that contribute to resilience, and how we can recognise them in our daily lives

  • Explore the practical applications of the PERMA model (Seligman, 2011) in our own personal live

  • Learn to use practical tools rooted in Positive Psychology to build resilience and nurture a positive attitude to life
