In most cases, you may feel sense of relief after talking to the counsellor during the first session but in some, you may feel a sense of discomfort, increased anxiety and confusion as you have to re-experience your problems while speaking to the counsellor. You are advised to speak to your counsellor if you have this concern.
Counselling is not a quick fix and changes take time. The number of sessions required is individual to each client and is dependent on the nature and complexity of your concerns and your commitment to work on the presenting issues. Although the level of satisfaction is not predictable, counselling often bring out positive outcome after few sessions. Hence, you are advised to discuss with your counsellor whether any subsequent meeting would be benefited to you.
